*TOPIC: LIVING AND PRAYING IN THE POWER OF THE HOLYSPIRIT*
*TEXT: LUKE 4:14*
It is not possible to make it through life without the Holy Spirit. I really wonder how people live without Him. The thought of me living without Him scares me; I can not even imagine it. It is not possible to live without Him as a Christian. If there is any body that would have made it through life without the Holy Spirit it is our Lord Jesus Christ. But we see that the Holy Spirit was prominent from his conception to his ascension. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35). His growing up was also through the Holy Spirit, “and He grew in wisdom and stature”; It is not possible to grow in wisdom and stature without the Holy Spirit.
In His baptism, the Holy Spirit announced Him (Luke 3:22). In Luke chapter four His prayer life was empowered by the Holy Spirit. Jesus could have ended in obscurity if not for the Holy Spirit. In Acts 10:48, the bible tells us that “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT and power, who went about doing good…”. His Ministry was empowered by the Holy Spirit. The ultimate sacrifice which his flesh could not bear, he was empowered by the Holy Spirit to bear. It was the Holy Spirit who raise him from the dead, Romans 8:11. And when he ascended, he sent the Holy Spirit to us as a final confirmation.
If Jesus couldn’t live without the Holy Spirit, how dear you try to live without the Holy Spirit. Jesus said “it is better for you that I go, for if I do not go, the Helper will not come to you”. He was trying to show them (his disciples and well us) that the coming of the Hoy Spirit will bring unexplainable blessings. When leaving Jesus told them (His disciples) not to move an inch until they have received the Holy Spirit. But thank God we don’t have to wait, He is already around. If you ask for the Holy Spirit the father will give Him to you (Luke 11:13, Matthew 7:7). Sometimes, out of ignorance people keep asking and asking for the Holy Spirit.

*What does the Holy Spirit do for us that makes His Presence an asset ?*
*1. The Holy Spirit reveals the purposes of God for our life:* He gives us understanding for the purposes of God for our lives. The Holy Spirit was upon Jesus and he found what was written about Him. You can earn fat salary and be very intelligent and not find God’s purposes for your life. Purpose exist only in the heart of the Creator; until He opens your heart to it, you will not understand. The human mind is too weak to grasp the purpose of God (1st Corinthians 2:9). How do we know the purpose of God for our lives? The Holy Spirit reveals it to us. (1st Cor. 2:10).

*2. The Holy Spirit recreates our spirit, so we are able to fellowship Him and understand and understand what God has for our life (John 3:5-6):* The Spirit gives birth to our spirit. A born again is one that his spirit has been recreated by the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit communicates the purpose of God but can cannot communicate it to an unrecreated spirit. When he recreates you, you will be able to understand the purpose of God for our life (1st Cor. 2:14).

*3.The Holy Spirit empowers us to fulfill God’s purposes for our life:* knowing purpose and not being able to fulfill it is worst punishment you can ever have. It is like having a pregnancy and not being able to push it out. It is the Holy Ghost that empowers us to fulfil destiny (Acts 10:38, Luke 4:18).

*4. The Holy Spirit fills us with love for God and for people:* Without that love (from the Holy Spirit) you can’t really impact people. You can’t heal people whose pain you can’t feel. Love drives impact; people of love are people of impact. An orange tree can not struggle to produce orange; a Christian does not struggle to love. If you are struggling to love, then you don’t have the Holy Spirit in you. Spirit filled people are love intoxicated and that love fuels impact, it drives them to impact.

*5. The Holy Spirit sanctifies us:* There is a connection between sanctity, glory in life and relevance with God. Only the sanctified vessels can become vessels onto honour (2nd Timothy 2:21). But who is it that sanctifies? It is the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5). The Holy Spirit progressively purges us; and that is what is called sanctification.

*6. The Holy Spirit fortifies us with His gifts:* All dimensions of gifts are given by the Holy Spirit. These gifts are tools for serving our generation, and you know that, those who serve their generation, end up being served by their generation. Spiritual service can only be done through the energy of the Holy Spirit (Romans 1:9).

*7. The Holy Spirit strengthens us to pray.*

*How can you maximize the presence of the Holy Spirit in you?*

*1. Recognize that you can’t make it through life without the Holy Spirit.* Don’t suggest to God that you can live without the Holy Spirit.

*2. Understand that you have the Holy Spirit if you are born again:* Don’t you know you already have the Holy Spirit in you; except you are not born again (1st Cor. 3:16). The Holy Spirit lives in you (1st Cor.6:19). It takes a measure of ignorance for a man to still live in fornication after he has been born again, because the Holy Spirit lives in him.

*3. Begin to cooperate with the Holy Spirit by talking to Him and listening to Him:*  How does he talk to you? he talks to you right in your heart, he talks gently and he does not terrify. Learn to talk to Him regularly; If you ignore the Holy Spirit He will be offended. Learn to be friends with the Holy Spirit, learn to do as he tells you- stop arguing with Him.

*4. Yield yourself to the Holy Spirit:* Simply tell the Holy Spirit that, “I am available for whatever you want me to do”. That is called being yielded.

*5. Ask for a baptism of power:* He does not just want to fill us when we get born again, He wants to fill us with power. If you speak in tongues you have become a power house for God. That power is Dunamis. What is Dunamis? It is supernatural energy to do things that are not humanly possible. It is also strength for moral excellence, it is mental capacity to think beyond the normal. Dunamis is miracle working power, it is physical stamina. So, learn to pray in the power of the Holy Spirit.

*There are two ways to pray in the power of the Holy Spirit*

1. Letting the Holy Spirit guide your thought into the will of God (Romans 8:26). When you are praying the Holy Ghost two things are happening. One, the Holy Ghost is praying for you, “the Spirit himself pray for us”. Two, you are praying in accordance to the will of God as inspired by the Holy Spirit.

2. Praying in an unknown tongue: In this one, nothing is revealed to you but are confident hat the Holy Spirit is praying through you.

*The best thing that can happen to a man is to be born again, to have the have the Holy Spirit dwelling in him and the Holy Spirit to cloth Him with power.*

*PRAYER POINTS:*

1.Holy Spirit I cannot live without you, I need you.

2. Holy Spirit I am tired of living by own power, take over my life.

Holy Spirit I make room for your power in my life, cloth me with your power.
