Prayer and knowledge of the word of God

*TOPIC: PRAYER AND THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORD OF GOD*
*TEXT: Psalm 119:41, 92*
Prayer in its authentic form is nothing but insisting that situations and circumstances must work according to the Word of God. That simply means that, a man who is ignorant of the Word of God will not know what to pray or how to pray. The starting point of effectiveness in prayers is the Word of God. The Psalmist said “I came out of your my affliction because I delighted in your Word”, that is to say, a man who values the Word cannot be swallowed by his affliction.
*What is the connection between faith and the WORD of God?*
*1. The WORD of God impacts faith and faith is the fuel for prayer (Romans 10:17):* Many times, we can be praying “Lord give me faith”. Yes, that is good but there is a limit to that. Study the WORD because faith comes from hearing the Word.
*2. The Word of God impacts light, it impacts understanding (Psalm 119:30):* Even if a man is stupid, if he begins to feed on God’s Word stupidity will vanish. And while he is praying, he will be praying with understanding.
*3. The Word is the container of the will of God:* the Word of God is the will of God. Praying according to the Word of God is praying according to the will of God. A man ignorant of the will of God cannot pray. Every prayer prayed according to the will of God will be answered (1st John 5:14).
*4. The Word of god is a weapon for the destruction of fear, doubt and demonic spells cast at the hour of prayer (Eph. 6:19):* A man praying and quoting scriptures has a two-edged sword in his hands; he is cutting demons; He is praying effectively. So, it’s not Just praying “fire consume them, fire consume them”. Even if you are praying fire, it should line up to the Word of God. God is a God that answers by fire (Rev. 8:3-5). You need to know scripture before you pray fire and God will answer.
*5. The Word of God makes the answer to your prayer compulsory (Psalm 89:34):* God is saying, “I will not fail to defend my Word.” Do you know that God has exalted His Word above his name? (Psalm 138:2). The Word of God is so precious that He will not deny His Word. That is why you will see David always praying, “Lord answer me according to your Word.”
*6. The Word of God impacts fire and fire makes prayers fervent:* There is a revelation you get from the word and sleep will disappear from your eyes. The Word of God quickens, it is quick (Psalm 119:50). If you want your tongue to be loose and carry fire in prayers, fix your heart on the Word (Psalm 139: 3).
*How do you use the Word in prayer?*
Search the Word of God regularly to find scriptures relevant to your situation, underline them, copy them on a paper, and memorize them.
*1. Search the scripture (Proverbs 4:22-23)*: When scriptures become pictures, prayer takes a new dimension.

*2. Eat the Word:* Every man is what he eats. What does that mean? It means, don’t just read the Word, mediate, and digest it. Some of us do not digest what we eat from the Word of God. How do you know you have eaten it? If you have eaten it, you will never forget it. Chew the scriptures until you can never forget it.
*3. Use that scripture you have eaten to argue your case in prayer:* You need to understand that prayer is like arguing your case in court. If your testimony is weak, you will lose the case. Bring strong reasons in prayers; there is no reason stronger that God’s Word (Isaiah 41:1).
*4. Express confidence in the ability of God to perform his Word while you are praying (Numbers 19:23, Luke 5:5).*
*5. Intentionally ask God for revelation from his Word.* When you do that, you will discover that one passage from the Word can bring hundred different revelations. That is what is called the Rema of God’s Word.
*7. Understanding that standing on God’s Word is actually standing on Christ: The real meaning of praying in the name of Jesus is praying according to the Word of God; Jesus is the WORD of God.

1. Lord thank you for speaking to me this morning.
2.Thank you for your Word this morning that will bring a turn around to my prayer life, in Jesus name.
3. Lord, give me a fresh delight in your Word; give me a greater love for your Word.
4. Lord, deal with me according to your Word. Your Word says, “He sent his Word… and deliver them from their destruction Word
